What I'm Reading (May)

Another month has passed and it is time for me to share what I have been reading. You will recognize most of the authors, though I have read all of them before.

Quicksand by Iris Johansen
This is the next Eve Duncan book following Stalemate. Eve continues to search for her daughter Bonnie's killer. Characters from previous books (including Johansen's latest, Pandora's Daughter) appear in this one. The story kept me interested.

A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
This is Haddon's second book following Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The story follows recent retiree George Hall and his obsession with a spot he discovers on his thigh. His struggles with dealing with his health and life and complicated by the other characters in his highly dysfunctional family. I thought the book was merely ok. It actually took me a while to complete...

Bloody Mary by JA Konrath
This is the second of the books I have read by JA Konrath. The main character, Jacqueline Daniels, has recovered from her last case and is back to work. Her mother, Mary, suffers a fall and Jack decides she should come home. In the meantime, a killer is on the loose and Jack is on the hunt. The story was interesting and kept moving. However, this was one of the goriest books I have ever read. If you do not have a strong stomach, you should skip it. I will continue reading Konrath's books because I like his writing style aside from the gore, but he is a bit much for many people to stomach.

Dakota Home by Debbie Macomber
This is the second of a three series set (following Dakota Born which I read in early April). Lindsay's friend Maddy buys the general store in Buffalo Valley and moves to the town. Her character is beautiful and empathetic. I loved the story so much that the next book I picked up was the final one in the series.

Always Dakota by Debbie Macomber
The third and, I believe, final book in the series focuses on Margaret Clemens and Matt Eiler. Margaret is desperately in love with Matt, though everyone else thinks he is a scoundrel. I am partially through this one. I like it slightly less than the others, but it was still great.
Damage Control by Robert Dugoni
This is the first book I've read by Dugoni and I am really enjoying it. The story centers on some mysterious deaths and a sister's investigation into her twin brother's death. The plot moves along nicely, and Dugoni is keeping me interested without the gore or blood I found in JA Konrath books. I am about 30% through this one and looking forward to reading more by him. If you are looking for someone like Stuart Woods or David Baldacci, I think you'll like Robert Dugoni.

I don't feel like I read so much this month, which is a disappointment. I have lots of other books waiting -- I'll keep you posted! Next on my list is The Hollow (book two in Sign of the Seven trilogy) , by Nora Roberts. I can't wait to read it!

Happy Day!
