The "Baked" Brownie, Spiced Up -- via Smitten Kitchen

As you may have guessed, I am subscribed to several cooking blogs. One is called Smitten Kitchen.

Last Friday they featured a modified recipe from the book published by Brooklyn bakery Baked. The recipe looked yummy. Out of curiosity, I went to Baked's website. They sell these spiced up brownies for a mere $72 for 24 brownies (the same quantity that the recipe makes).

Ok, I was shocked. But the brownies still looked awfully good. I asked Mike to take me to the supermarket on the way home from work, where we got most of the ingredients. I had to visit another store on Saturday to get the rest. $30 later, I had everything I needed, including some expensive spices that I would only need a teeny bit of. Mike teased me that is why they charge $72...

I made the brownies Saturday afternoon. The flavor is interesting. I omitted the cardamom when I made them (mostly because it was $11.95 for a bottle, when only 1/4 teaspoon was needed). They have a bite, but a good bite, and are nice and moist. I would definitely use the recipe again, but I think I would omit the spices...

Happy Munching!
