I neglected to share our great weekend at camp when, yesterday, I focussed on myself. Shame on me! Now I am back in the groove of things...
We made it to camp around 1:30 pm on Friday. It was a beautiful ride and such a nice day. Our trailer was all set in its spot and positioned perfectly. Our first obstacle was to lower the piece of the deck that Paul had set to swing up for removal. For those of you that cannot picture this, long story short is that the site is not a straight pull-through, so having a flip-up section allows for positioning without losing deck space. Anyhoo, Paul warned us it would take 3 guys to lower the section down. Au contraire! It took one Mike and one Tracy. Voila! I won't say it happened without a bit of work, but we did it all by ourselves. Did you see those bruises from me patting myself on the back?!
Our next task was to hook all the utilities up. I hooked up the electricity (more on that to come), sewer -- including taking the cap off the trailer and having icky sludge drip on my bare hands, yuck!!! -- and water. We used the slinky-like sewer pipe as a temporary measure to get going. Mike cleaned up around the tires, leveled, etc... He did so much I don't even know what he did! After a bunch of stuff I cannot remember, I was cleared to start the inside work.
The inside of the trailer was the dustiest I have ever seen it. I think the slide jostled around during the move... The good news is that those dryer sheets are awesome. The place smelled great. I picked up the 200 (it seemed) but I am sure we'll find theme for weeks to come! I cleaned everything and made it sparkle, then started unpacking the 7 totes and several bags of belongings. Mike was outside doing all kinds of stuff (I don't know what, but things looked really great when I went out there). I know he filled the tires. This was a big deal because the air compressor wouldn't work. He tinkered for the longest time. In the meantime, I kept complaining about the refrigerator not getting cold. Mike the Magician solved both at once: I had not flipped the breaker for electricity. Oops! I plugged in the cord but didn't know the service was set to off. I ran the inside of the trailer on battery power for almost two hours... I've never plugged in before, I didn't know! Mike also got our DirecTV set up and working in under 10 minutes. Woo hoo!
We were pretty much all set up by 6:00 pm. We had a nice dinner then watched Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. It was pretty dumb, but it made us laugh. Laughing is good :) No Ghetto fire was allowed due to the widespread fire risk in the Berkshires. That was stinky.
Saturday was our bonus day, having gotten so much done on Friday. I planted some bulbs around the deck, planted a whiskey barrel with more bulbs, and Mike did some landscaping and deck stuff. Mike installed the hard sewer pipe (bye bye Mr. Slinky, back to the bumper for you); he was able to re-use a portion of our old one. No glue or fuss, easy peasy! We got our flagpoles erected and outside prettiness up. After a quick ride to Pittsfield we washed the trailer. Boy, was it dirty. Icky icky icky! It sure does look pretty now :)
We cleaned up, then spent time socializing. Dinner was nice and relaxing, then I fell asleep by 8:30. I was exhausted. So much for me being any fun....
It rained a bit Sunday night, so we packed up and left by 10:30 Sunday morning. We got lots done and are looking forward to 5 months of sunshine, good times, and great friends.
More Birthday Stuff
Thanks again to everyone who made my birthday so special! I am especially lucky because I have a week of festivities. Mike's birthday is Friday and our Anniversary is Monday. For me, this a week long celebration.
On that note, Mike's family is out of town in Florida and will be back tomorrow. We are waiting to celebrate our birthdays with them. They certainly didn't forget me, and I don't want to leave anyone with the impression I felt forgotten.
I know how loved I am by all my family and friends, every single day. I am blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people and am truly grateful.
