I stayed up last night to watch the elections. Well, I tried to stay up. I really dozed in the living room and woke up off and on to check the progress of the returns.
I'm sure many of you know that I am very opinionated about my political opinions. I will keep my comments brief.
I saw both campaign speeches. I was very impressed by John McCain's encouragement to his supporters to come together as a country and work towards change. His concession speech had a positive message and he did not accept the chants of his suppporters as the "right" reaction.
I felt Obama's speech spoke volumes about the man. Both with his words and with his actions he conveyed how difficult the next few years may be, but that if we work together, we can restore this country. His words and his expression were as serious as the office of President. The other thing that I found very touching occurred at the end of the speech. Obama and Biden's family flooded the stage. It was a beautiful mix of people that were more representative of the people in our country than in any Presidential election -- ever. There was a mix of young and old, black, white, and other. And everyone was embracing.
I hope our country can do the same and change the future together.
