Shed Offices

Mike's upcoming transition to working from home has gotten us thinking about an office space outside of the house. This isn't an idea we've been serious about; it is something we have toyed with and something that "would be cool".

When I cam across this article on TreeHugger today, it really struck a chord. This is what we are thinking. Wow...

The video does drag on a bit, but I like seeing what they did. I wonder what the budget was. If you have some time to get sucked in -- like I did -- follow the link over to the TreeHugger article. There is a great slideshow of home office sheds and some other cool shed-office related stuff.

Upgrades

This business of being a home owner can be a lot of work. Actually, we don't mind. Upgrading our investment feels and looks good.
Our most recent purchase was new windows for the upstairs bedroom that will become Mike's office. We replaced the 30+ year old windows with nice aluminum clad wood Pella Architect 850 series windows.

Here is the before.

Old, icky windows

They let cold and moisture in

The installer ripped out the old windows and fortunately the sill was still good.

Ooh, moss isn't good though

We also discovered that this part of the house was made of repurposed lumber. This isn't a surprise, considering the age of the house. Both windows had post holes.

And here are the new windows, all wrapped up and ready to install.

We opted for a 6 over 1 grid to give the house a updated feel.

We really like it. The downstairs windows will be next!

San Francisco

I was able to go to Ghiradelli Square with a couple of people last night. We took the cable car down the Powell-Mason line and stopped along the way to walk Lombard Street (the crookedest street in the world?).

We didn't have the time to make it to Fisherman's Wharf.  I'll try to get over there today, but who knows. I had a nice time, but if Michael was here it would have been a great time! I miss him :)

Have a great day!
