While all of those celebrations are good for our families, there is another day today that is good for our pocketbooks; Change a Light Day. Energy Star, the US Department of Energy, Consumer Reports, and others are encouraging homeowners to change at least one incandescent bulb to a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL).
In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, if every American household were to replace one incandescent bulb with an Energy Star CFL, enough energy would be saved to light more than three million homes for a year and cut annual energy costs by $600 million. (Consumer Reports, October 2007).
So here's the plan: change a light bulb to a CFL, then sit down with your family for a fun night of making balloon creatures, eating pizza, and having popcorn with a movie!
